We’ve been building timber garden buildings for over 30 years, Steve our owner has designed and built everything from a simple garden shed to a full size club house, for a local bowling club.
The build process is at the heart of everything we do from the design, to choosing materials, the construction and assembly of your building.
If you already have a design in mind you can request a quote from our contact page.
If you are still trying to decide on a design you can have a look at previous builds for inspiration or if you would prefer you can book an appointment to meet with us either at your home or our showroom in Middlesbrough.
We are often asked, “What are your standard sizes“, “Can you make an ‘L shape building” or “Our Garden is a funny shape”.
We don’t have standard sizes, just popular ones and have manufactured many odd shape and L shape buildings over the years. We pride ourselves in being able to produce bespoke buildings that not all manufacturers are willing or equipped to do.
With over 30 years’ experience in the construction of Timber buildings and Garden rooms we are confident that whatever your needs, we will be able to meet them. Whether they be regarding size, shape or aesthetics.
- Flexibility and versatility. Garden rooms can be used for a wide variety of purposes, and they can be designed to meet your specific needs. For example, you could have a garden room that is part-office and part-gym, or a garden room that is used for both work and leisure.
- Sustainability. Garden rooms can be built from sustainable materials and designed to be energy-efficient. This can help you to reduce your carbon footprint and save money on your energy bills.
- Planning permission. Garden rooms often require less planning permission than traditional home extensions, making them a quicker and easier way to add extra space to your home.
It’s essential our buildings are installed on a flat base. This can be achieved using a concrete slab, pavers or timbers set into postcrete or similar. If you are unsure about any stage of the process just ask.
Wall and frame construction
The quality & construction of the framework within your Garden room is key,The framework is the skeleton of your building. As standard we use 75mm x 50mm Eased edge graded redwood.
Our framework makes use of vertical, horizontal and diagonal joists, this minimises movement of the walls and reduces the chance of cracks appearing when a plastered finish is required.
One of the most important parts of your building is the roof construction.
The roof joists within the building must be the correct dimensions, over a given span to ensure that the roof does not dip or sag.
We use only selected C24 graded roof joists of varying dimensions. C24 is produced for the purpose of roof joists. It is graded for knots moisture and density.
- The minimum joist size is 125mm x 50mm used over buildings up to 3m wide. We increase the joists to 150mm, 175mm and finally 200mm x 50mm for widths up to 4.5m.
- It is important to note that the use of lesser ungraded timber or inadequate depth joists can lead to warping and sagging of a roof.
- Our Roofs are clad in 18mm OSB boarding and finished with an EPDM Rubber membrane with a 30yr plus life expectancy.
- 4” black half-round guttering is also supplied now as standard.
The external cladding has a strong impact on the overall appearance of your garden room. The most common materials we use are shown below. Choices are generally made based on appearance, price and maintenance intervals.
Canadian Western Red & Alaskan Yellow Cedar
Cedar is one of the world’s most durable woods. It is resistant to corrosion and decay and offers natural resilience making it is ideal for cladding and fencing.
It has a distinctive, uniform pale yellow colour and is fine textured and straight grained. It is very stable and shares virtually all the characteristics of Western Red Cedar. It takes UV stains and oils well and can look a lot like Red Cedar once finished with a tinted stain.
Advantages of Cedar Cladding
- Requires little maintenance, can be left untreated to ‘silver’.
- Beautiful finish.
- Stable in shape and dimensions.
- Shadow gap profile.
Linax
Linax is warm, Modern, and earthy and is ideal for creating a distinct and natural look.
It is designed specifically for outdoor use, so is an extremely hard-wearing timber that is perfect for cladding buildings such as garden rooms/ studios.
Produced in Sweden from FSC certified forests, by adding hot linseed Oil into a vacuum pressure tank to evaporate water from the timber, the planed Redwood is US3 high-pressure treated to be very strong.
Advantages of Linax Cladding
- Requires little maintenance and Long maintenance intervals (12 years).
- Provides a natural look with plenty of wood feel.
- 12-year product warranty, 50-year rot warranty.
- Stable in shape and dimensions.
- Available in brown, grey and natural finishes.
- Shadow gap profile.

Advantages of Redwood Cladding
- Low cost.
- Large choice of stain or paint finishes.
Installing insulation in your garden room will help maintain a more usable space throughout the year.
We typically use 50mm Foil coated PIR Insulation sheets because of its superior insulation properties, which provides thermal and acoustic insulation which will help maintain temperatures and noise reduction from both inside and outside your garden building.
The gallery shows the timber frame construction, insulation being installed and the redwood tongue and groove panelling used to line the interior of the building.
We can also use other insulation products, such as Polystyrene and varying forms of Rockwool if required. These alternatives are generally opted for when customers have concerns about Wi-Fi and phone signal in areas where the signal is not good.
We are happy to discuss your requirements to help decide which products suit your particular needs.
Adding power and or water to your garden room, extends its functionality for work, leisure and recreational activities. All our installations are caried out by fully qualified tradespeople and come with the relevant certfication.
Garden rooms can be connected to your existing electrical supply or you may wsh to consider solar panels and a battery supply.
Guttering can also be fitted to buildings to collect or divert rainwater.
Simply put if you can imagine it we can build it
